If all businesses used their own system of accounting, or indeed no system at all, there would be no way to tell which companies are profitable and which are not. Because of this most companies now use a common set of accounting principles, which are called generally accepted accounting principles, or GAAP for short. Everybody can assume that a firm has used the GAAP system unless they specifically state otherwise. When GAAP methods are not used the company needs to make clear which other form of accounting they have used and are banned from using misleading titles in their financial statements. The majority of financial accountants consider GAAP the gold standard for financial statements and summaries. Not disclosing that it has used principles other than GAAP makes a company legally liable for any misleading or misunderstood data. These principles have been fine-tuned over decades and have effectively governed accounting methods and the financial reporting systems of businesses. Diverse principles have been founded for different types of business entities, such for-profit and not-for-profit companies, governments and other enterprises.

Following a brief 50 minute flight from home we approached Birmingham international air port right in the middle of the most overwhelming hail storm I’ve seen in many, many years, it was punching the roof of our aircraft that hard I thought we were likely to see sunlight through holes from the roofing at any moment.

Luckily we did not have to clear customs since our flight was classed as domestic, so we were spared the honours on the regular 20 minute queue this time around. We went out through the main doors and walked straight past an enormous line of airport terminal airport taxis that were waiting for work, to the short stay car parking exactly where we had arranged for a Worcester Taxi to get us and drive us instantly to The Worcester Art Gallery.

Our planning to use the Worcester taxi airport service instead of jumping in a local taxi in the airport terminal, was that we thought that by hiring the local Worcester taxi, the driver would know exactly where the Fine art gallery is at Worcester, whereas the Birmingham airport taxi driver would possibly not have an idea exactly where he was trying to find at the heart of Worcester.

After collecting the painting on time, we headed outside where we had a Northampton taxi waiting around to drive us right to Delapre Abbey, just outside Northampton. Once again, finding a taxi local to our ultimate destination, using the strategy that the drivers local experience is certain to get us straight to the Abbey with no unnecessary u turns or adventures.

By using a Northampton taxi additionally gave us a chance of quizzing the driver and locating some of the finest local restaurants to eat in, as well as where exactly the best shopping was.

It is commonly accepted nowadays for couples to ask for money as wedding gifts but is this really ok with wedding guests?

Keeping on top of your accounts is of course vital when preparing a wedding.

All purchases and outgoings should be carefully budgeted for. For each item required a budget should be allocated to prevent you from overspending. Some brides allocated 1,000 for the dress, 100 per head for each meal and 2.00 per guest for a wedding favor.

But, when it comes to asking your guests to give you money as a gift, many [older] guests are not happy about this. From a brides point of view, it makes sense because many couples live together before their wedding and already have plenty of household items. Having said that, many guests do not like the idea of not knowing what the monetary gift has paid for.

Perhaps we should go back to tradition and give guests sugared almond wedding favors and graciously accept the proverbial toaster [or toasters!].
